Despite its relatively small size, Malta has a wealth of exciting activities and cultural excursions to enjoy. This is due to the fact that it is packed full of surprises with magnificent cultural attractions located all over the Islands. As a result, we’ve drawn up a list of some of our favourite activities that the Maltese Islands have to offer – we hope you agree and like our selection!

Go the Beach!! We opt for Golden Bay with its long sandy beach but Mellieha is a good choice too especially if you have children. Remember to go early if its during the summer months as it gets busy by midday!

  2. Valletta

Head to the ‘European Capital City of Culture 2018’ and experience its vibrant mix of newly restored boutique hotels, incredible Baroque architecture, wonderful shops and spectacular views of the Grand Harbour! Be sure to also pay a visit to St.Johns Cathedral with its masterful paintings by Caravaggio that adorn the walls and ceilings.

  3. Sliema Promenade

Head to the heart of Sliema to the buzzing seafront promenade and enjoy one of the many cafes that line the way whilst people watching and taking in the sea views and air.

  4. Hypogeum Temple

Visit the UNESCO world heritage site in Paola which is a maze of ancient underground halls, chambers and passages cut out of the rock and covering some 500m2 which date back to 3600BC!

Buy Maltese bread from a traditional village bakery – its hard to beat!

  6. Mdina

Visit the ancient fortified town and former capital of Malta with its incredible alleyways and backstreets, not to mention the stunning properties and elevated views from the bastions.

  7. Gozo

Take a day trip to the rural small Island home of Calypso in Homers Odyssey and make sure you visit its magnificent sandy beach at Ramla Bay. Ferries go every 30 minutes or so from Malta and you can drive the car on and off so access is easy. Even better stay the night as there are plenty of hotels and farmhouses to book and enjoy!

  8. Blue Lagoon in Comino

Jump on a boat and head to the Blue Lagoon for a day trip to swim in the crystal clear waters and stunning surroundings of this tiny Island off the coast of Malta. It is one of the Mediterranean’s best-kept secrets and has recently been listed as one of the most beautiful islands in the world!

  9. Megalithic Temples

Go and see these incredible temples and ruins that are some of the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world – even pre-dating Stonehenge and the Pyramids!!

  10. Dive

It’s official! International Diver Magazine has just named Malta as the No.1 diving location in the Mediterranean and 3rd in the rest of the world in a recent online poll.
